UNCERTAINTIES

"Mr. Currier's "Uncertainties" was meant to illustrate the notion that two opposing ideas can be equally valid...........Mr. Currier's two ideas were represented by independent pieces -- one blazingly fast, the other slow and mysterious -- which continually interrupted each other. His writing was skillful and passionate, and if the music cannot deal fully with Mr. Currier's philosophical question (how does one weigh the validity of his twinned works?), it made a strong effect on its own terms."

-NY Times

                               Program Note

Written for violist Misha Amory. First performed at Alice Tully Hall on Mr Amory's Naumburg Award Concert. The piece consists of two sharply drawn and polarized musical ideas. Each interrupts the other and the connections are always abrupt and sharp-edged. The piece is dedicated to the memory of composer Stephen Albert.

Scoring
for viola and piano
